Pink Prorsum
wearing a total Burberry Prorsum look with Floralpunk earings Photo by my Quyen Mke! |
I know it has been ages since i last blogged (how many time have i said this already). Having just been through a rather memorable episode of my life, i think it is definitely a right time to really focus on myself a bit more and do what i love. So happy that my girl Julia has been so on track with this space otherwise my blogging career would be over ages ago due to my lack of commitment. On the plus side, the weather was wondrous for the past couple days in London. Last Monday, as usual i attended the Burberry Prorsum AW14 show wearing a bubblegum pink jacket from the Men’s collection and a SS14 black lace shirt which i absolutely adore. I’ve been super busy to tears lately so please do pardon the eye bags and the overall flat-to-death looking hair. Photos from the show will be live shortly so do stay in tuned with me! With love ❤ N
BREAD & BUTTER Berlin F/W ’14
One thing most people will recommend you, when you attend Berlin Fashion Week is Bread & Butter. I will let you know what Bread & Butter is, and my impressions of it. It’s a fashion trade fair located in a shut down airport, and it’s not that exciting. That’s pretty much all you need to know. Seriously, for you, as a consumer of fashion, it won’t be interesting at all. I went there, because I’m a retailer now, with my online shop, I was looking for brands, but I don’t know whether it was just this season, but I found the selection of brands rather boring. Except for one eyewear brand from Australia, I didn’t see any other brand that I wanted to stock. There were a lot of street wear labels (I’d recommend Bright trade fair if you love street wear though), and other ones like Lacoste, Herschel, Scotch & Soda, Converse and a lot of those… G-Star kind of style brands, you know what I mean ? I don’t know why it’s so highly recommended. It was like taking a stroll through a big shopping mall, with brands, that would settle in such a mall. I went there knowing nothing about what to expect, really. I just went there. Took one round, which took me not even two hours, went out, and went home, utterly disappointed. Fortunately I neither had to pay, nor came all the way to Berlin to attend Bread & Butter. I mean, Iam sure a lot of people find what they are looking for there, otherwise Bread & Butter surely wouldn’t exist, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. So unless you don’t have to go there, because of your job or a specific brand, I wouldn’t recommend going to Bread & Butter. And unless you are press, retailer or something else industry-related, I don’t think you can go there anyway. Or you have to buy tickets ? I don’t know. Now you have a very subjective impression of Bread & Butter. So next time you come to Berlin Fashion Week, and someone says, oh god, you have to visit Bread & Butter, save your time, and say: ‘Julia said it’s boring.’ It’s just a very big accumulation of brands, looking for stockists, in a big old airport. Which is kind of cool. But that’s about it.

Elemental Lim
All shot by me using Canon 600D |
This season, Phillip Lim purposely exercised a survey of raw landscapes, terrains, geodge-formations and life within a brute yet beautiful charged ecosystem. To me, it is all very elemental with a soft twist to each piece that he put on the runway. Very edgy downtown girl with attitude and a rebellious approach. What is your fave piece from the collection, mine is definitely that metallic vest. Have a fabulous weekend!
Why I decided not to go to Paris Fashion Week.
Nina Ricci F/W 13 via Labert and Associates |
I lay awake all night with a disturbing question on my mind. I couldn’t get my thoughts off it, and it wouldn’t let me sleep either. Should I go to Paris Fashion Week ? By myself ? Should I, or should I not ?
Nga won’t be there as she is back in London and has exams this week, but I do have the time. Actually. Uni hasn’t started for me yet. We got several invitations, Nina Ricci, Viktor & Rolf etc. including backstage access. Backstage access is something amazing. You can take photos of the models behind the scenes, maybe take photos with the models if you can find the time, and it gives you the feeling of being right there in the middle of fashion industry. An excitement for people who don’t work in the industry, that can’t be compared to any other feeling.
It definitely is an opportunity, but is it really worth it ? Going to Fashion Week without being sponsored is not a cheap thing to do. In major cities like London, Paris, New York and Milano, living expenses are high. Thus when you come from a place like Berlin, where living expenses are low, it simply will cost you more money than you were going to spend if you just stayed in Berlin. If you plan it as a trip, and have saved money beforehand for your journey, it is a different matter. But if you suddenly get invitations, and are supposed to spend money from the funds you currently have, money you wanted to spend on something else, the questions of whether it is worth is pops up basically by itself.
The fact that Nga won’t be there, and none of my other friends is willing to go with me, I started wondering, ‘Do I really want to go by myself?’. I do know some people in Paris, but it is not the same feeling as going with your close friends. Shouldn’t I be more independent and not rely on my friends for such a matter ? I have travelled by myself before, and it was never as much fun as travelling with my friends. If you compare this whole fashion week affair with a super fancy party, you are invited to. Would you go ? With the opportunity to maybe meet fancy people and with the opportunity to dress yourself fancily. But without much money to spend on the fancy drinks, and without knowing anyone at the party, would you be able to have fun ? I wouldn’t. I most definitely wouldn’t. That’s why I decided not to go to Paris Fashion Week. Paris is a beautiful city, but I don’t want to be there on my own, without much money in my pocket. Shows and backstage, and all excitement aside.
I’m choosing to stay in Munich instead, to spend the time with my friends, and to have fun, far away from the fashion week turmoil and far away from Paris. The good thing about fashion week and paris are that they don’t vanish. So I might miss out this season, but there will always be a next time. As there will also always be a fancier party to attend. Besides I still can have my share of Paris Fashion Week thanks to style.com and the many other bloggers who are going.
Wang Spring Fourteen : Parental Advisory Explicit
all shot by me using a Canon 600D |
When i first saw Behati on that runway, the first thing that came into mind was Adam ( is he somewhere in the front row watching his gorg fiance) but then what distracted me straight away was the curious alphabet logic that Alex brought on board this season. Messing with the concept of censorship, cults, youth culture and perhaps most notably, branding, Wang displayed something we haven’t seen before with the play of logo, subtle camouflage and menswear dressing. It was a mixture of something innocent and a bit wild at heart and no one did it better than Georgia May Jagger in that sheer ‘ Parental Advisory Explicit’ sweat shirt which i am sure will be every blogger/fashion icons’ must have next season. Even though i was not very sure about those chunky-to-the-max Mary Jane pumps ( that caused a lot of trouble backstage for Hannah and some of the young interns), those crispy cotton skirt , Erin, Joan in those dresses in laser cut leather with Wang logo on the surface definitely won me over. Narcissistic or not, Wang continued to prove that he is one of the most anticipated designer at New York Fashion Week. Let me know what you think of the collection. Stay in tuned for my Phillip Lim impressions. Fabulous weekend to all my beautiful readers! With love ❤ N
Oh Victoria
shot by me, using a Canon 600 D |
This morning, i attended my second show at NYFW ( the first was Alexander Wang yesterday) and yes it was the sensational Victoria Beckham’s.The interpretation of shapes and how to apply them both literally and conceptually was her principal theme this season. The runway was flowing with geometric shapes, color blocking, strong, sporty and sexy silhouette. To me, this is her strongest collection yet as the progress of exploring proportion really allowed her set those boyish elements against a sense of femininity that is demonstrated through every single pieces showcased. Not to mention the best front row of the day which included her beautiful husband ,baby Harper and a (smiley) Anna Wintour, Victoria did her best in showing her very own aesthetic for Spring/Summer. Check out my video on Instagram, caputirng the finale. Stay in tuned for my A.Wang impressions.
